ABOUT

"I want to create jewelry that is not only beautiful, but also imbued with meaning imparted by me, as the maker, and more importantly by the wearer."
-Kimsu Hoang

PROCESS

It begins with a diversity of influences converging into a collection of pieces that tell a narrative. All pieces are handmade to order, from beginning to end, by me. They are made in small batches, so each one is different from the next, making them truly one of a kind. I experiment with materials and metalsmithing techniques to create designs that bridge the past with the future. Since pieces are made on request, this averts overproduction and excessive waste. My creative process involves designing, carving, soldering, forging, polishing, stone setting, packaging, and shipping each piece with a personalized note.

ARTIST

Kimsu Hoang studied jewelry design in NYC as well as fashion design and art history in Houston. Learning and playing with forms, textures, volume, and materials in her previous art and design backgrounds is the same way she approaches jewelry. Each piece is crafted with meticulous detail and quality and express eclectic influences to show that beauty can arise anywhere, especially in the offbeat.

ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITY

The jewelry industry can be a very dirty business teemed with environmental and human rights abuses. As a maker, I have a duty to be responsible of what and how I make, so that I can contribute to the change. Sustainability is incorporated in the choice of materials that are used – recycled and ethically sourced, safe working practices, and also carried into the packaging of the finished jewelry – the packaging is made of recycled content and is recyclable. The shipping box, which is recyclable too, is locally made in the US.
